Two men in court over theft of church property

Two men, who allegedly stole iron rods worth N180,000 belonging to a church, on Wednesday appeared before an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on charges of conspiracy and stealing. The accused: Bidemi Akinniyi, 32, and Nurudeen Oyetuga, 26, whose occupations and addresses were not stated, however pleaded not guilty.


The prosecutor, Cpl. Mary Ajiteru, said the accused committed the offences with others at large on or before April 1. “These two accused conspired with others that are yet to be apprehended to steal from the Foursquare Gospel Church at Ita-Oluwo in Ikorodu area of Lagos State. “The accused carted away 90 by 12 millimetre iron rods worth N180, 000,’’ she said.
The prosecutor said that the accused contravened sections 409 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011. Magistrate Bola Olagbegi-Adelabu granted the accused N50,000 bail with one responsible surety each. She adjourned the case till May 26 for mention.
